When you step into a role, what do you want the purpose of the company you work for to be? How does that align with the individual purpose that motivates your ambition?

As the only independent Medical Research institute in Australia focused on childhood cancer, our purpose is to translate and discover (through world class research), new treatments that will cure cancer and reduce the side effects in children and adolescents.

We save & change lives. At The Children’s Cancer Institute we believe that a life should be long. Cancer cuts life short for hundreds of children every year, before they’ve even had a chance to make their mark. We aim to not only improve their quality of life, but eradicate the cause of their pain.

Choose to be part of a team that will nurture your talent and grow your career, so you too can contribute to this purpose. Together, we can and we will cure all children of cancer. It’s not if. It’s when.

As our Research Development Manager your purpose will be to:

  • Network and liaise with all research staff across the Institute, to generate a comprehensive portfolio of funding support requirements at an individual and group level.
  • Undertake pro-active and targeted dissemination of current and future funding opportunities throughout the Institute, acting as a key point of contact between researchers and the Research Development and Partnerships Team.
  • Support, coordinate and facilitate academic workshops focused on building consortia and research alliances to prepare for major funding calls.
  • Ensure that academic staff have the best quality intelligence, guidance and support to develop successful funding applications.
  • Support detailed proposal development and take ownership of selected highly strategic bids, acting as bid development project manager to develop cross-disciplinary proposals, that often encompass multiple partners across disciplines, geographies and sectors.
  • Build up a portfolio of high quality, collaborative grant proposals that align with the major-grants funding horizon.
  • Liaise with other internal and external professional services staff (including grants and research support and development services at UNSW) as required on issues such as funding scheme information sessions, contracts, intellectual property and commercialisation, and costings.

To succeed you will have…

  • A PhD in cancer biology, oncology, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in cancer research, including experience in project management and grant development
  • Strong knowledge of cancer biology, cancer genetics, and related fields
  • Demonstrated success in securing grant funding and other research support
  • Considerable experience in scientific writing, including grant proposals and scientific publications
  • Ability to build positive relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and ethical standards for research involving human subjects and animal models
  • Ability to identify and develop new research opportunities and match these to the most relevant funding scheme

We will support you to be your best with benefits that include but are not limited to:

  • Access to our ‘FlexBEST’ program – true flexibility from day 1 - options include hybrid working, school-friendly hours, and 9-day working fortnight
  • Focus on employee wellbeing, including a leading EAP program, and up to 5 gifted wellbeing days off (paid) per year
  • Investment in leadership development and career advancement opportunities

Join a group of dedicated people in a performance-driven environment to achieve success and discover what it's like to look forward to coming to work every day and make a real difference.
